After almost a decade of Shunning AuthorityTM, it wasn't until Early 2009's general vibe of pointed disciplined exuberant misbehaviour and all its wayward consequences - good and bad, all very much earned the hard way - that it all came into actual focus in my eyes, what it all actually means, and where it was all leading towards and so Late 2009 was welcomed with arms rejuvenated once again with the elementary artcrit-lite concept that the best offense is the best work of art that an individual - and that individual alone - can conceivably produce in that point of time in that individual's life (with an emphasis on work and produce) in context with everything else in the linear way we make efforts to understand and make art history, meaning for me, even more pointed exuberant misbehaviour only now even more pointed and even more disciplined and even more exuberant; only now it is simply behaviour; a philosophy that has cemented the foundations of my entire 2010's production ad nausea, from co-editing the High Chair Maguindanao Massacre trilogy to the Miguel Syjuco conversation to the recent small press expo - three landmarks signifying yet another theme of this year's production, that of Collaboration - from the third edition of the El Bimbo Variations to Crows & Rages to Item Mite Emit Time - three landmarks signifying yet another theme of this year's production, that of Self-Criticism/Self-Improvement.
And so with this year's production, a year that is yet to end, from the highest to the lowest, I say, resoundingly, once again, Independent life is actually good for you, and if you still don't understand that, well, I say, resoundingly, once again, this is not for you.
